Yiwu is located in the central part of Zhejiang Province, close to the central eastern coast of China. It is known as the World Wholesale Commodity Center.

Since Yiwu is a county-level city, there are no international flights to Yiwu. so importers usually arrive in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou or Shenzhen before going to Yiwu.

There are three ways to travel to Yiwu: airplanes, trains and long-distance buses. It is convenient to use passports to purchase tickets. Please note that foreigners cannot book train tickets online or book train tickets at ticket vending machines in the ticketing hall. They can only purchase train tickets at the ticketing window of the ticketing hall.

1. How to get to Yiwu from Shanghai/Hangzhou?

There are following three ways to get to Yiwu from

a. Get to Yiwu from Shanghai Pudong Airport-by Bus/Private Car

Shanghai is 300 km from Yiwu. If your international flight arrives in Shanghai, you can choose to take a bus to Yiwu because it is very convenient. Go to the bus station on the second floor of the waiting hall, buy your ticket with your passport (180 yuan, about 27 US dollars), you will arrive at the Yiwu wholesale market bus station (near the 5th district) within 4.5 hours.


Sometimes there are some private cars (usually Buick MVP) to Yiwu wait for passengers at the bus station after driving customer from Yiwu to Pudong Airport, they do not want to return to Yiwu without any passengers. The price is about CNY 800/ car (123 US dollars). If you want to carpool, you can share it with people who are also going to Yiwu at the airport, and then you can discuss how to share the total cost. This private car can't be found every time, but you may meet them by fortune. It is very fast and convenient, don't forget to bargain with the driver.

b. Get to Yiwu from Hangzhou Airport or Railway Station

Hangzhou is the capital city of Zhejiang Province. If your international flight arrives at Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport, you can take a bus to Yiwu. This is very simple, the bus station is in the No.14 gate of the airport terminal, and you will take about 1.6 hours to arrive at the bus station located in District 5 of Yiwu wholesale market. The bus will depart from the airport every 40 minutes during the daytime, but in the evening, the interval between each bus becomes 1 hour till 21:30. The price is CNY 62  (9.5 US dollars).

There are also some private cars to Yiwu that waiting for passengers at bus stations (like the Shanghai airport I mentioned above). The price is CNY 350  / car (54 US dollars). Carpooling is the same as I mentioned above. And bargaining is necessary.

Another way is to take a train, which is a bit complicated. You need to take the subway line 1 to reach Hangzhou Dong Railway Station first. This train station is a high-speed train, different from Hangzhou Railway Station. The train to Yiwu runs every 10-15 minutes and there are more than 60 trains every day from 6:00 to 22:00. There are three different prices: Business Class - CNY158 (US$24), First Class - CNY 84 (US$13), Second Class - CNY 50 (US$7.7).

c.Get to Yiwu by Train from Shanghai

If you like to take the train to Yiwu, you need to take subway Line 2 to Hongqiao Railway Station (虹桥火车站 Terminal station), then go to  buy a high-speed train ticket to Yiwu. The train departs from Shanghai every 5-10 minutes from 6:00 to 20:00 every day, and it takes only 1.5 hours to reach. There are three levels of ticket prices: Business Class - CNY 377 (USD 58), First Class - CNY 201 (USD 30), Second Class - CNY 123 (USD 19)

2. How to get to Yiwu from Guangzhou/Shenzhen?

There are two ways to get to Yiwu from Guangzhou/Shenzhen:

a. Get to Yiwu by Train

If the international flight you will take is arriving at Guangzhou/Shenzhen airport, and you want to stay in Guangzhou for a while, then take a train to Yiwu, you need to go to Guangzhou Nan Railway Station (广州南站) first, then take the high-speed train to Yiwu. There are three types of ticket prices: Business Class - RMB 2131 (US$327), First Class - RMB 1110 (US$170), Second Class - RMB 674 (US$103).

But if you want to take the train from Shenzhen to Yiwu, you need to take the high-speed train/intercity railway from Shenzhen to Guangzhou first, then arrive at Yiwu. Because there is no high-speed train from Shenzhen to Yiwu, it has an only fast passenger train that takes 15 hours to reach.


b. Get to Yiwu by Airplane

If you want to take another air flight to Yiwu as you don't need to take any urban transportation in this way. And it will take 2 hours to arrive.
If your international flight arrives at Guangzhou/Shenzhen Airport, then you'd better taking another flight to Yiwu, as you do not need to take any city transportation in this way. It takes 2 hours to arrive.

3.Public Transportation in Yiwu –Taxi

The public transportation in Yiwu is very bad, there is no subway. And very few buses after 6 pm, no bus to the market after 7 pm, and even most locals are not familiar with bus routes. So taking a taxi is the best way to get to the hotel/market. The good news is that the taxi fare in Yiwu is very cheap: CNY 8 for the first 2 kilometers (about 1.07 US dollars), and then CNY 2 per kilometer.

PS: Taxi drivers waiting at the airport will not run the meter when you get on because they usually give you a total price. So remember to bargain with them.

4. How to go to Hotel/Market from Airport/Railway Station?

Yiwu Airport is a small dual-use military and civilian airport, about 5.5 kilometers from the center of Yiwu. The best way to get to the hotel/market from here is to take a taxi. The taxi fee is about CNY 60, about 9.5 dollars.
Yiwu Railway Station is located 9 kilometers northwest of Yiwu City Center. You'd better take a taxi to the hotel/market, too. The taxi fee is about CNY 30 ($4.50), but please remember to let the taxi driver use the meter before renting.

If you already have friends or suppliers in Yiwu, you can ask them to pick you up, because the taxi driver rips you off as you are foreigners.

5. How to go Back to Shanghai/Hangzhou Airpot from Yiwu?

There are two ways when leaving to Shanghai/Hangzhou airport when you finish your business trip in Yiwu: taxi and bus.

a. By Bus

Take a taxi to the bus station at District 5 of Yiwu Wholesale Market, then buy a ticket to Shanghai Pudong Airport / Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport. As mentioned above, the price in Shanghai is CNY180 (27 US dollars), and the price in Hangzhou is CNY 62(9.5 US dollars). The bus will depart from Shanghai Airport every 2-3 hours every day from 6:15 to 16:30, total is 5 buses per day. There are more buses to Hangzhou Airport, every 40-60 minutes from 6:20 to 19:20.

b. By Taxi

As I mentioned above, you can take a private car from Shanghai/Hangzhou Airport to Yiwu, no doubt they can bring you back, the price is the same as here.

You can ask the hotel's front desk to help you book a taxi one or two days before you leave, or you can ask the driver who is waiting outside the hotel. Another way is to ask the phone number of the car that took you to Yiwu, and then contact him one day before you leave, he will give you a discount (reduce CNY200, about 30 dollars).

The price of Hangzhou Airport is CNY350/car ($54). The price of Shanghai Airport is about CNY800 / car (123 US dollars). If you take the same driver to Yiwu, the total cost is CNY1400 (about 215 US dollars).
